steering wheel question

Featured Replies

What other steering wheels will fit onto a Mk 1 Octavia?

I'm just exploring the possibility of sourcing a complete wheel and airbag from something like a Seat Leon or Ibiza Cupra, or a VW or Audi one. They seem to be more abundant than Octy VRS airbags.

Anyone know??

Mk4 Golf, MK1 Leon, Beetle, TT, A3, anything on the A4 platform will fit.

However the connections on the airbag may well be different.

another question, along the same lines...

HOW does the airbag come off the steering wheel? Does it just pull off like the old horn pushes used to, or it is screwed on from behind, and if so, what heads do the screws have?

Has anyone removed one??

Do you think an explosive device if just going to pull off like a horn push, nope.

No bolts, two spring clips have to be released from inside bt inserting a small screwdriver in the back through a pair of holes.

thanks dude. I'll try it tomorrow!!

i really wouldn't be happy myself taking an air bag steering wheel apart, very low but possible risk of setting of air bag myself which i dought would do anyone any favours.

Ordinarily, I would agree with you - but the reason I'm trying to remove my steering wheel is BECAUSE the airbag has gone off. D'Oh!!

This is why the official Citroen service manual pages for the ZX (acquired legally, from a director of Citroen UK) on working on the airbag system start:-

"Disconnect the battery".

still messing with explosives that need only a small charge of electricity to go off would worry me!

it's actually Johnny "Danger" Catbiscuit, although I am known to my friends as Johnny Tapioca (and various other things not suitable for a public forum)

Yeah so is mine. I always take of airbags with the battery connected, engine running whilst violenty headbutting the steering wheel shouting "bang bang".
