I have one on order ! :D :D :D

Persuaded SWMBO and my parents to chip in for my forthcoming birthday and get me one.

Took the easy option and went for one with the Sonus DAS pads and polishes.

It'll do for starters to build up a level of comfort before i can experiment with other pads/polished.

Watch out for a burnt panel coming this way soon.:rofl:

Just out of interest, is there any reason you went for this over the Megs G220 one?

  • Author

To be honest, no real reason.

It's coming with all the leads/transformer/polish etc..for just a little more than the cost of a G220, so really it was just what suited me.

With the level i'll be using it, i doubt there'd be much difference in what machine i took.

Cos i'm crap ! :D

Interesting choice of machine, I have both the UDM and the G220 and I am using the G220 everytime over the UDM for varying reasons............

Where did you source your UDM from in the end then? Is it brand new? Autopia?

You won't be burning any panels mate................you would be going some to do that with a DA..............

I got it brand new from Ebay seller who's local to me.

I got a good deal so cant complain, and i'm sure if i want to up to a G220 i can flog it on easily enough.

I've never used any type of DA before, so at i've nothing to lose.

Fair enough mate, I am not putting down the UDM as it was my first machine and it has served me well.............

Just had it replaced under warranty and was very happy with the service received from Autopia............

The only other thing for me was cost really.

The G220 Sonus equivalent kit was near £200, i got the same sonus kit but with the UDM for nowhere near that. :D

Dependant on how bad your paintwork is you may need to invest in a stronger cutting polish as the while I like the Sonus SFX-3 the Sonus SFX-1 doesn't cut as much as other products.........

It will be interesting to see what you think but fair play for sourcing a machine............

  • Author

Yep i agree, the sfx-1 may not have enough cutting, but for a first few trys, i'm keen just to use it and get used to the machine, then i can go for something a bit more hard hitting. (not sure what though)

The car is fairly bad, but i'm using it as a project, rather than a one off correction.

It's getting the front end painted in August, and by then the new front wing will be on, so the old one will be my scrap panel.

Simon,

Do you think i would've been better off opting for a G220 with a Menz kit ?

Reason i'm asking is...they're out of stock on the UDM now, so i have the chance to cancel.

I noticed cleanyourcar do a menz kit for £199, if it seriously worth the extra cash, then i would spend the extra.

I can only comment on my experience from using both machines but I can summarise as follows:

+ G220 is sturdier, better built, better finished with less vibration and noise;

+ G220 comes in a hard case for storage;

+ G220 requires no transformer and runs of 220Volts;

- G200 machines have a problem at the moment with the soldering of the speed regulator, newer models have an updated version and don't suffer from this problem, it is worth reading this thread first on DW:

G220 Woes !! - Detailing World

I have owned my UDM for 8 months and have had it repalced as the bearings went but this machine was used once a week all day producing good results.

I have owned my G220 for 2 months now, corrected only 3 cars but have been happy with it's performance and if it does pack up then I have the UDM in reserve while the G220 gets repalced.

I use the Menz products every weekend, I find the FF and IP very good, I have others but for me I would use Menz over most to achieve a good correction level.

Thanks Simon, appreciate that a lot.

I was maybe a tad hastie in ordering the UDM/Sonus.

But after a bit of digging i really cant see anyone thats used Menz, and complained about it.

Hence my possible change of plan.

Will keep you updated.

Thanks again. :)

What did you go for in the end then?

  • Author

Well it's definately going to be a G220, but with most people being out of stock at the moment, i've not bought anything else.

Although i would think i'll be going for this...

Meguiars G220 - Complete Menzerna Kit

Although i've mailed Clark (P Bliss) to see his thoughts and if he can make up a kit for me for about the same price.

Any thoughts on that ?

Have you spoken to Alex at Elite Car Care?

  • Author

Nope.

Is he the main man for this ?

Nope.

Is he the main man for this ?

Well he has been good to me in the past and I buy a lot of stuff from Elite but it's worth finding out if he can do a deal or anything!!

Cheers Simon.

Ideally, i'm after something that can work with a few cars, not just mine.

Got my bosses RS4 and Jag XJR lined up once mine is done, although unlike you, i wont get paid for it.
