Towing: DSG

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. Nice to meet you.

I've been towing an 1100kg (MTPLM) caravan for years with an Octy I 1.9 TDI and then with a 2.0 TDI 140. Both wonderful! Now got a 1300kg van: still wonderful.

I'm thinking of changing to a 2.0 TDI 140 DSG. Anyone towed with a DSG?

Thanks

John

If you do a search on this forum you should find an answer:thumbup: Welcome to the forum:)

I have towed with an Octy DSG for just short of a year. I have an Elegance estate 2.0 TDi.

I find that the DSG works very well when towing. Some say that putting it it sport mode works better for them but I find just sticking it into D is fine. Sport mode holds the gears for longer allowing one to get more power from the engine. The ability to knock it into manual for steep hills works very well for controlled descent.

The only negative comment is not related to DSG but to how the suspension sags when 75 Kg is put onto the hook. I have just fitted MAD spring assisters. It sits higher at the back unladen and looks a lot better but not yet towed with it like that. I would say though that it was very stable anyway towing 1230 Kg.

On holiday in Holland/Belgium last year I happened across 2 Octy DSGs and their owners were delighted with the towing performance. - Count me in too.

Go for it!

I'll second that. My 56 plate Octy 1.9TDi DSG hardly notices my caravan (Elddis Firestorm 350/2). Small van I know but this is the best towcar I have had so far.
