Flaking Indicator Bulbs

Featured Replies

Morning All,

Just noticed this morning that my orange indicator bulbs are flaking on the front of the car. Problem is that big chunks are now starting to drop off and lay in the bottom of the indicator housing and its one of those little things that will annoy me!

I haven't looked at the car in deoth but is there an easy way of cleaning the flakes out of the housing without having to take them out?

Thanks

Mike

This happened to the rears on mine, i just put new bulbs in.

Get a hoover with a thin ended attatchment, should do the job. :-)

It's a 20 second job to remove the indicator, as it is only held in with one bolt. Then either blow the flakes out, or rinse it under the tap and let it dry :D:D.

Good idea to change them as it is an MoT failure if the bulbs have faded. As I know from experience.

Agreed with most of the above, except that flaking indicates rubbish paint on the present blulbs.

Incidentally, Haynes' actually recommend removing the indicator as the easiest way of changing the bulbs.

Mmmm

Agree with the above

We used to get throgh LOADS at the dealerships as the heat cracks the paint off

I have the posh ones in my car

silvervision is clearly the way forth sarah!

when i changed mine for philips ones i noticed they had flaked. probably due to cheapo bulbs and moisture getting in the unit from a broken seal where the front indicator unit touches the headlamp unit.

wash it out and put some good bulbs in...

Yup, just changed all mine to Phillips as they were starting to flake.

I also found out the hard way that it's an M.O.T. failure.:o

Having looked at the back of the indicators I thought undoing the bolt & taking the unit out was the only way to change the bulb.

You have several unfair advantages in that respect! And you've not deployed "fluttering your eyelashes" or "flirting outrageously" yet!
