Vrs Tdi

Featured Replies

Hi,

After my 1st service last month on my vrs, my car had to go back in after developing a fault within 3 days of the service. to cut to the chase a emmision sensor had to be replaced as it was goosed. since then the car has been driving ok but yesterday it developed another fault, whilst stationary and idling i became rather tractor like and wouldn't rev above 3000 revs, (surprizingly enough no dash lights came on) the ironic thing is it will go above 3000 revs whilst driving and doesn't seem to be driving too bad. after contacting the local dealership, who are as helpfull as a fart in a trance, they said the car had gone into limp mode and they could book me in in 2 weeks to look at.

My question today is, has this happened to anyone else and if so what's wrong with the bloody thing?

I have to say that my experience of the VRS TDI is fab but the Skoda aftersales is absolute sh*te and would def put me off going for another Skoda...

Sorry if i sound a little ****ed but it's getting to me now.

I'd like to make two suggestions to try and help you;

1. The car not revving above 3,000rpm when stationary sound like the 'launch control' function operation; its a rev limiter programmed into the ECU, and

2. As you have to wait for 2 weeks to get to your dealer; why not give Skoda Assistance (the RAC) a call and tell them your engine's gone all funny and your not sure about driving it. They will at least come out to you and put their diagnostic laptop on the car to see what the fault is. They might even be able to fix it.

Overall it seems like you have a similar experience to me in that the Exhaust Gas Pressure sensor (part of the DPF setup) failed on my car, coincidently pretty much straight after 1st service as well. More info about this can be read here;- http://briskoda.net/forums/octavia-ii/engine-light-again/109149/

Bahnstormer, "launch control " I didnt know it had one - So if I floor it whilst stationary it will not rev above 3000rpm - but only go higher if a drop the clutuch and let it move off?

"Ready for take-off - Houston - beep" :D

There's a thread on it in here - it's useful, but the function is crap :rolleyes: - you can get a better launch by doing it "manually" :thumbup:

Providing gear engaged and clutch depressed - floor the throttle; engine revs to/at 3,000rpm!

However as djgritt suggested a faster getaway can be made by carefully balancing throttle/clutch etc. :D
