Forced off the road

Featured Replies

Chrispy,

I work from home roughly 3 days a week, sometimes 5. I'm completely convinced that it's part of the answer to all this. If those whose job is compatible with home working were given the option, it would cancel out traffic problems overnight, well at least the rush hours anyway.

There is still a perception amongst management that home-workers are swinging the lead (not in our company), they have to get over that and realise work is an activity, not a location.

Dave.

Hear hear. I vote Dodgy for prime minister.

I agree, a friend of mine works in computer support for the council, and he has to commute 12 miles (x2) every day, but if they supplied him with a video phone, and a decent computer setup, he, and basically nearly ALL the people in his (very large) office block could work from home......

which has a flat rate of 11% (I think, need to look this one up to be sure)

20% IIRC - some of the amounts in absolute terms are still pretty hefty though... :D

Yes, I stand corrected - you are correct.

Currently trying to work out how I can buy my future cars on Guernsey to save a few £ on VAT and Road tax

SNIP

Car ownership not that long ago used to be a luxury few could afford. I realised the other day that it may well soon become a luxury again. I feel that it is abuse of the car that has led to this - as with all things abused, the privalige is eventually taken away from us.

END SNIP

Unfortunately when car ownership was a luxury, everyone worked in walking distance from home to work

Now however most people have to commute at least twenty miles eachway to earn their crust

So if as it appears to be, car ownership is back to doctors and directors swanning around, many are going to be unemployed also

The car is no longer a luxury it is a necessity

My alternate 40 minute 35mile commute by car

is walk to bus station, take bus to railway station, train to city, bus to near work and walk again a 35 mile commute that would take nearly three hours

Can not afford the car, can not afford the travel time by alternate transport, give up work and live off the state, in poverty

Solution for Duggie

You drop out of Uni, with no academic results, hide your A levels

Then neopitism allowing apply to be a tanker driver for hoyer

Problem solved

41k per week for 38 hours driving a big white van

Specialist training consists of being able to Run Like F, After an accident

The 38 hours driving will satisfy your lust for being on the road and you will have loads of dosh to take the Furby out at weekends

One major problem is neopitism, you will notice all the drivers have large foreheads, and look like twins, if your dad, brother, cousin or maybe your sister is not employed by hoyer then you may struggle

Way to go
