'Clunky' throttle

Featured Replies

Our family wagon is a 2000 Octavia Estate 1.6 which is great, but recently I have noticed the throttle is a little clunky at times. It happens if you take your foot off to slow down and then reapply the throttle again - there is a definate jolt as the power comes back in. Someone has mentioned it might be worn engine mounts. Is the correct, and if so are they expensive to replace?

It might be engine shunt, or it might just be your driving and the over-run fuel cutoff.

Any problems with gear selection? Can you move the top of the engine by hand?

Thanks for the reply. I hope it isn't my driving - I am preparing for my ROSPA advanced driving test at the moment so I would like to think I am reasonably smooth.

I will have a go at moving the engine in a minute and let you know. Gear selection is fine.

Cheers

I didn't mean to be insulting (and if you're chasing RoSPA you're probably a better driver than I am): it's just that if you pick up a trailing throttle really sharply you can cause driveline shunt.

Most likely mount to be causing problems is the "dogbone"; do a search for more than you ever wanted to know, or I can remember, about them.
