Sill covers

Featured Replies

Any opinions regarding the sill covers bearing the Fabia logo - the website picture is non to clear.

Are they only for the front doors or rears as well - i.e. set of two or four?

Apart from their protection capabilities, do they actually enhance the look or they a bit of a 'blot on the landscape' ?

Aside I bought a universal set from off the web just puitting sill covers into the google site. The cost for 2 stainless steel self adhesive plates was less than £20.00. They are pictured on various sites and look pretty good. My problem was they were bent in the post so have not stuck down as well as I would have liked. They do enhance the door sill appearance and there is evidence that they prevent paint scratching.

They are Plastic with a stainless insert on both front and rear.

They fit ok if the door seal is lifted then replaced.

Depends if you want asthetics or practicality.

I had the Skoda ones fitted to my estate as a dealer-fit option and I think the Skoda ones look good. They come as a set of four, though I rarely carry more than one passenger.

The painted sills on the Fabia are deeper and therefore more likely to get scratched than some other cars we've owned.

Thanks for the replies, I thought that they looked fairly deep and a bit bulky in the non to clear website picture. It seems that they are asthetically pleasing as well as practical - will have them fitted to my new car.

Not sure which thread I saw it on but someone was under the impression that the ordinary(i.e.non-steel insert variety) sill covers were no longer available. Not so-I have just had a set fitted at the first service along with a few other items.

Guys...just bought some 'Sill Guard' body tape. Just about to apply it to my new Fabia Estate. I'll upload a piccy when I've done it later today or tomorrow.

It appears to be good quality stuff, reasonably thick, and is ridged to provide a durable surface resistant to scuffs. It's easy to apply after removal of the backing paper. It cost just £5.95 from a good motor accessory shop. I've used a similar product on other cars and have never had any complaints. Does the job but ultimately won't be as tough as the stainless or Skoda items.

Yes i fitted them to our new Fabia estate they look great very easy to fit as well

Chrome insert ones fitted today at £55 a set of 4. Car is just 12 months old and was already showing signs of wear on the sills. Money well spent as far as I'm concerned, and the first in 12 months apart from fuel, so far so good!

You only really get one shot at fitting them though as the adhesive strips stick like the proverbial **** to a blanket!! Get it wrong and the metal inserts will surely bend as you try to remove the sill cover. Be careful!

Is there a picture of the taped on ones linda ?

i had the stainless ones replaced about 2 months after i got the car cos they rusted :eek:

I bought and installed the ones with the stainless steel inserts on my car when I bought the car allmost 12 months ago. They still look good, do their job well, and I haven't seen anything that looks like corrosion. I wipe the sills on my car dry with a cloth after each wash, so maybe that is what keeps my sill covers rust free??

I recomend the sill protectors!

:)

Thought one or two of you might be interested in seeing a piccy of the 'E-Tech Sill Guard Tape' that I applied the other day. I've fitted it to the front steps only at the moment. It's ridged and very tough stuff. It's not hard to fit but as with all things like this you must get the positioning right first time as if you try to remove it once it has stuck, you're buggered!

Oh...and by the way, my wife's teddy helped!

Thank you. That is what I call a picture, they do llok good and cover the area completely. Now get on and do the rest.

I had the 4 dealer option stainless steel sill guards on my fabia, which was new in Jan 08, they are pitted / marked on all 4 after 2 months. It does not polish off and looks poo. Dealer replaced them, the replacements did the same. I have now given up.

I might look for some chrome off ebay.

HZ...errr! I forgot to reduce the picture in size...bigger than I thought it would be though!
