De Cat MOT

Featured Replies

So i've just found a very friendly garage who will do me an MOT if i have no cat fitted, So obviously my next mod will be a de-cat down pipe. Who provides de-cat pipes for the Octy RS and at what price?

Also, does anyone know what the pipe is for attached to the bottom of the air box in Octy RS? (The pipe runs around the front of the block and below the powered steering pump). It's really puzzling me

Possibly the pipe which goes to the secondary air pump?

Hayward and Scott will do a decat for a Tavia. Be warned though, you may pass a MOT (nudge-nudge) but if you're insurance co. decide to be arsey, they could void your insurance in a claim as the car is 'unroadworthy' :(

That is what Greenlight told me when I had my Impreza - but I did it anyway

As an MOT tester  naughty naughty. Let me know if you find a way around the CEL light from displaying itself,,,,,,,,,,VWvortex suggests several mods; to stop it...

:D I have a 2 month old OE cat of which i`m debating wether to knock the internals out:confused: while keeping the origanal for MOT reasons;)

Try Janspeed in Salisbury, as good as Hayward & Scott but cheaper, they will even build a bespoke system foy you should you want something special. Also consider a high flow cat (sports cat) as this keeps it all legal, gets over the cel light problem but will give loads more performance.

What is the purpose of the secondary air pump? does the air going into the induction system from the pump need to be filtered? or can it be plumped in by the MAF to bypass the air filter. (there is a method in my madness, all will become clear in a few weeks)

Mike - the turbine type noise you refer to is the Secondary air pump -- it basically pumps fresh air into the engine on a cold start to keep emmisions down -- once the engine is at normal temp it will stop.

The pump is mounted in front of the engine just slightly right of centre -- and looks a little like a siren.

I have the stock cat for sale if any body wants it. It's already been added to to allow it to fit back in to a decat system that I used to have.

Will take some pics ;) But IIRC it basically slotted into it's normal place come MOT time ad when not in a pipe of equal length took it's place. Should be fairly easy to fabricate into anyones system is specified....

Burger anyone? ;)

Ding - fries are done.... Saw a Barry Boy Focus flaming its way through a queue on the A1 last night. Sooooooooo pointless. Performence reasons  Making flames come out the back :thumbdwn: Muppet!

Colin.......did you manage to stop the CEL light from coming on when you ran a decat:confused: This is my main concern as if it stays on it will mask any other problems.

No guaranteed fix available as yet but you could try moving the 2nd lambda sensor out of the gas flow by using an extended nut thingy - this is the latest thing they are trying in the states and it seems to be working... Haven't tried it myself yet - will probably wait for one of the mappers to map it out :D
