Today just while managing to escape a BMW on a quiet scottish a-road (nameless) and approaching the roundabout there was an exhaust back box in the middle of the road... splatttt, horrible noise, lots of smoke, the bmw driver laughing thinking i'd blown up. all my fresh oil was allover the road, police took 40 minutes to arrive while i had to try and keep cars and bikes out of my slick. no doubt the sump was iniollated. i dont get the repairers report till monday. £450 excess to pay and a courtesy fiesta to drive.:eek:

That sounds nasty did you stop the engine or did it stop by itself.

Still you may get a new engine out of it.

Questions.......

• Why were you in the middle of the road approaching the island to hit the back box? Surely (hopefully) you mean carriageway?
  
• It reads as though you were giving it a fistful to 'escape' the BMW, surely you should've (could've) had time to swerve, or even stop if you couldn't do that due to oncoming traffic???

It sounds as though you were too busy looking in your mirror 'escaping ' from the BMW to notice what is actually in front of you...

I'm all for spirited driving, but if you choose to do it you need your wits about you.

Sorry your motor is mullered, but it sounds as though you could've easily avoided the whole fiasco.

required; sump, oil pump, drivebelt cover, front bumper, bottom engine cover.

ps running over the back box was as easy as standing on a turd @?#! it
