Damn Main Beam bulbs...!

Featured Replies

Aaaaaaaargh!! hahahahaha

Popped a main beam bulb last week so thought I'd replace both with some uprated jobs.

Put them in, 5 minute job, all good.

Tested en route to pub and they're pointing downwards!

Pulled them out in the pub car park, re-seated them. Went home. Same! Grr.

Same again last night. Still pointing downwards!

Looked in the manual to see what (if anything) I was doing wrong, farked if I know.

Put them back in again and left it on the drive and watched football and drank beer.

There's two grooves on the bulb - one is rectangular, one is a semi circle. When I put them in it felt like you had to have the NS one with the round cut-out towards the bottom of the lens, and the OS the other way up - they both felt as if they sat nice and solid in the apertures and clipped in ok.

Will test tomorrow, when I'm not over the limit.

Bulbs. How hard can it be? HAHAHAHAHA

don't your lights have the levelling control option?

Yes, it does. Sorry, should have said that the dipped beam pattern is fine - and point exactly where they should do.

Edit: Just had a look on the drive. NS main beam points where it should ie up and out, OS downwards.

Farking thing! HAHAHAHAHA

The bulbs should both go in the same way up.

Take one of them and look at the heat shield by the bulb. For main beams I would guess this should be at the bottom of the bulb when it is installed

Forgot to post that I'd sorted this issue.

It's quite easy to get the H3 bulbs in wonky, pointing either up or down.

So if you change yer main beam bulbs, have a look at the angle of the bulb in the cluster! They should be pointing straight towards you, not up or down!
