Original Audio Replacement

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I've just got hold of a Fabia which still has the original cassette player/radio installed, I have the cd player from my old car which I want to use instead so what will I be needing to (a) remove the old head unit and (B) any special connectors? My cd player has the standard connectors and went straight in to my old car no probs but I gather Skodas might need an adaptor of some sort?

Any help would be appreciated

Pop down to your local Halford. They'll be able to advise you what cable you'll need (dependent on the make of Head Unit).

I slotted a Blaupunkt into mine (only a cheap one) was a straight fit, no adaptor cable needed.

You will need a surround though to fill in the gap a standard head unit leaves in the Fabia's oversized apature.

In addition I also had fitted a Signal Booster for the radio (Was about £8) If you've a multimeter and are adept with wires you could do it yourself, but I didn't fancy it myself. The reason for the booser is that the replacement head unit's radio reception was poor by comparison. Works perfectly now.

you might find that a couple of wires need switching around. Skoda players have the +12 volt cable and the ignition cable the other way round compaired to standard ISO wiring.

This site has a diagram, if needed change cables 4 and 7.

This will only need to be done if the player doesn't work when the key has been removed when it should work.
