Any ideas on how to clean the callipers properly, will car shampoo a wheel brush and a bit of elbow grease do the trick??

thanks, Mick.

Are you removing the wheels to do it?

I use a hard bristled toothbrush, some t-cut abrasive rubbed into them using the brush, then washed using a mixture of alloy wheel cleaner and shampoo

Erm, Brake Cleaner????

Depending on how bad they are take the wheels off and given them a wash followed by a polish brings them up a treat.

I find Alloy wheel cleaners takes the shine off them a lot. I find if you clean the wheels once a week it doesn't get as much of a chance to caked on. Just use an ordinary shampoo an giving the calipers a rub with a alloy wheel brush keeps them clean too.
