Windscreen Wipers Freezing

Featured Replies

Can I have some help please?

A few weeks ago I left my car in the capable hands of my wife. That evening I got a call to say the wipers where stuck in the vertical position and she couldn't reset them.

I had a look when I got back and managed to push them back into the stowed position - they then worked as advertised..

But everynow and again they woud stick or do extra sweeps when cleaning the window but it was manageable. Looking on this forum I can see that the linkages are prone to seizing but I still haven't got round to it.

Now for the problem - driving home today from a day out with the kids the sky opened switched wipers on - no problem. Three miles from home they seized again in the vertical position, it's quite hard to see in the rain when they don't work, well to be honest I **** myself.....

Managed to pull over into a lay by but nothing I done would make them work. I was able to manually reset them, but once switched on they stuck again in the vertical position.

Thanks to the RAC I got home safely

I realise I should have sorted this a few weeks ago but has anyone else experienced this and if so what is the soution - motor, linkage etc.

Please help...

There is a thread on here with pics IIRC if you do a search:thumbup:

Did they seize?, the fact that you were able to move them suggests not. They do suffer from problems with the parking switch on the motor, which causes them to stop randomly or not switch off when they should. A new motor should sort it.

sounds very similar to the problem which i had last summer. New motor was needed... pity i had just driven off the ferry in France when i found out :-(

Problem solved - put car into local garage - new motor fitted.

£168 for motor and 1.5 hrs labour. Hopefully this is a fair price!!

Tested in the rain on Wed - no problems.

1.5 hours to fit a wiper motor? Or was that to diagnose the problem, too?

1.5 hrs all together, so I guess it included some fault diagnosis. Their initial quote was for one hrs labour before they tried to access the motor. From previous posts I reckon it can be a nightmare to get out.
