oil leak

had a search and cant really find anything, i have just bought a fabia vrs, 53 reg, and i looked underneath it today and found nearly the whole of the engine was covered in splashes of oil, so anyway i cleaned it all of with a bit of brake and clutch cleaner and gave it a little jet wash, i can still smell through the vents that it is leaking from somewhere but am not sure where, are there any common problems on these where they spray oil out of a pipe or something???????
