Possible Corrosion Hotspot

Featured Replies

Normally I don't advocate using a power washer on a car, you can end up forcing water into places where it could never otherwise get, however whilst washing the lower half of my Octy with one the other day I noticed muddy water coming from the bottom of the front wings just in front of the end of the sill. Directing the washer in there a huge amount was eventually washed out from both sides.

This sort of hidden trap is just the sort of place a nice poultice of salty mud can fester and cause corrosion to take hold and you'd never notice it until it perforated the wing by which time it's far too late and you've got a really big problem :thumbdwn:

Next time you're washing yours just direct a hosepipe in there and see what comes out

Try removing the mudflaps and inner wheel arch liner - you will probably find a nice build up of crud. I took a six inch high compacted mound out of mine on both sides recently, due to the drain hole being blocked.

Ive removed my linears before and you'll be amazed at the amount off rubbish that gets in there.

That will be because they are the drain channels for the skuttle area. Just take off the mud flaps pop the clips out and remove the solids with your fingers. Then leave a hose on the skuttle area to run the water down there and flush out the last bits.

did mine when i fitted the mud flaps and was shocking!

Yep.

Think yourselves lucky you don't have Mondeos!!! The arches are formed in such a way mud can sit there until the end of time, rotting the car in no time at all... Mine is one of few that haven't fallen foul of this touch wood.
