Silicon Bend - pipe into EGR

Featured Replies

Hello all.

Noticed today that the OEM clip on the pipe into the EGR is bloody crap and not holding the pipework in well at all.

I am looking to replace it with a silicon bend of some sort, I take it would be a 90 degree?

I have removed the pipe and measured the diameter of the hole into the EGR and it roughly measures around 75mm? Thats total diameter not just internal.

Would it be possible to replace this bend with say an 80mm silicon bend attached at both ends (onto the intercooler pipe and EGR unit) with jubliee clips? OR would it have detrimental affects on performance?

Offending pipe (please note EGR is removed here)

I know devonutopia has a silicon bend here so perhaps he could be of personal assistance

I have the same problem Joel, and we're not the only ones. Mine disconnected itself on Friday evening, for the second time. In fact I emailed Allard today about it as I don't think it's acceptable. If they're wanting to integrate an aftermarket part into an existing setup, it needs to be done properly.

I'm pretty sure Allard do an aftermarket section from EGR bypass to the intercooler, but I'm not prepared to give them anymore money at the moment. I'm sure there will be a Samco pipe that would be suitable, but I don't have any details I'm afraid. I'm sure one of the other guys will.

What's required is something that's a better fit over the EGR bypass, as well as a revised jubilee clip that is rated to higher pressure and can sit more securely over the bypass and revised pipework. I know Jason uses Mikalor marine clips rated to 50bar or something daft. But worth baring in mind that these will be of next to no use if the connection between the OEM pipe and bypass is still carp! As Mr Skudmissile will testify :)

Cheers,

Steve
