Door Check Strap replacement

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Noticed this evening that the front O/S door is making a loud clicking from the check strap when opened and closed. Also noticed a small lump of white plastic tube fell out of it when I opened it first time round and the clicking started.

Looking closer at it, the plastic rubbery bit in the A pillar looks really manky compared to the passenger side which is fine. The flaps on it fold in and out when you open/ shut the door whereas the N/S does not.

Question is how hard is it to replace this part? Can you just do one part (the bit in the A pillar) or does the rod that goes to the door need to be done too?

Thanks,

Chris.

Sussed it - the star bolt holding the check rod to the door was loose - really loose. Tightened that and noise gone. Odd how that would make it click like that. Horrible.....

Common "problem", I think. It's happened on all three fabias that I've owned, but a good tighten and it hasn't come undone over the last 30k miles!

My nut has worked loose again - it's a horrible noise - will have to do a better job of tightening it this time.

Have had that with all cars I have owned.

The rod goes in at an awkward angle when closed and rubs on the inner housing.

Try putting some nut lock on the screw, should never happen again.!

Ah, good thinking batman....might try that to stop it coming loose again. It's the 1st time it's come loose in 55k so it's not done badly. Sounded knackered though. :(
