Sloping rear seat and baby seat problems

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just hoping someone might know the answer to this question.

We have an isofix base (to go with our Recaro Young Profi plus) as our seat belts aren't long enough to fit round the car seat (this has now been confirmed by a fitter) but she said that our seats slope too much and this would put a newborn in a too-upright position. We're now wondering if it's safe to take out the seat padding (the whole bit you'd actually sit on) and just fit the isofix base into the isofix bits, set the foot on the floor, and use it like that. Any advice will be really welcome!

Thanks,

Helen

Probably not as the child seat wouldn't reallly be in contact with anything underneath. The leg is just to stop the seat diving forwards in a crash I believe, it will also probably rock around a fair bit. The isofix brackets on the child seat are normally angled so that when you push it in it pulls the child seat down into the car seat and holds it firm.

Have you looked on the recaro website to check it fits a fabia (assuming you can check like on the britax website).

I have an octy and my wife has a seat leon and I wouldn't say the seats slope much and I don't remember the fabia having sloping seats, but I haven't driven one for a couple of years.

Failing that try another shop for a second opinion. The baby seat we had (Graco I think) had a little indicator on the side which showed if it was tilted to much.

Yep, Recaro list the Skoda Fabia (old stylee) in their compatible cars document for this seat.

I see what you mean about the base not being in contact with anything to stop it from rocking around.

I think we will get a second opinion. There is a Recaro dealer near us.

I really like the sound of the feature on the seat you had to indicate if it was too tilted. Wish it was standard on all car seats.

i thought i was going to have the same problem with my isofix, although the legs that fix into the hooks have pivots so it fits with a little work lol, i think that if the base is fixed for a long time the seats will become permenatly dinted, if you know what i mean.
