Is there a mileage limit for remaps?

Featured Replies

It's possible I dreamed it, but is there a mileage limit for remaps? It is a 1.9tdi estate and has done 43000ish.

Also are there any other things that ought to be done to ensure that it can handle 130bph or so? I don't need it to be loud or have tractor wheels or scrape along the ground. :)

I'd imagine it was down to how you drove the car once remapped.

It's not so much there is a mileage limit. 43k miles is run in for the derv. The weaker points will for sure be your clutch, and the turbo isnt as big on that one either I guess. That said, it should run 130ish without too much grief :D

Upping the power doesnt mean you have to change the rest :)

Just get it done and enjoy the extra economy :)

but is there a mileage limit for remaps?

18 yr old spotty 'oik = 5 miles

70 yr mechanic grandad = 500,000 miles.

Choose somewhere inbetween. ;)

:D

I fear I may have had moments of each.

Ta for the responses. I don't generally drive in such a manner that I've found the car's abilities limiting, but a bit more grunt would be handy/fun on occasion.

Just do it :)

I should have known there wouldn't have been many naysayers here. ;)

I like to believe that a custom map is more tailored to your car than the map given to you by Skoda, so I like to think with like for like servicing / care / respect it will actually last longer than standard.

I can believe what I like I guess, but my car is coming up for 70,000 miles of "well in excess" of 200bhp motoring, without putting a foot wrong (unless it was caused by my own muppetry alone. :o)

IMO upper mileage isnt a problem, As has already been said clutch life is the only thing that might be reduced. A good tuner with a custom map will not give you the maximum torque possible for just that reason. Our TDi Octy was mapped by Jabba to around 160 bhp & has covered over 100,000 miles since the remap & is still on its original clutch. If you engage in boy racer traffic light starts then it wont last long. Research the map carefully & beware of the cheap "bloke & a lap top ones"

A custom map on a rolling road will be the best option & is a good check for any other problems with the car
