Has my water pump disintigrated (moved)

Featured Replies

Give it any beans and the temps guage creeps above 90 when this happens it seems I cant accelerate above 80mph

The aircon blows warm

TBH not sure when it was last changed, if ever, the prev owner certainly didnt have it changed when the cambelt was done at 80k now on 94k

Am I going to have to fork out for a new cambelt too?

Sounds like.

I'll move this to the MK1 section for you. You'll get more help there buddy

they have to change the waterpump when they do the belt anyway due to tension on the waterpump pully and previous leaks if thats anyhelp but i had all mine done at a dealer with service it came to bout £700+

they don't have to do the pump at all, its a bloody good idea but not required.

Mmm

It is only about another half hour of a job to replace the water pump if you have cam belt done

That is why alot of companies do them together

As the water pump has a chunk out of it , it cannot keep up with pumping the water round when it is having some beans

But tootle and the water pump can keep up , so it does not overheat when tootling

But put your foot down and yes

Sorry my dear

Take the return pipe off the header tank, rev the car up and watch to see if water comes flowing out, if it doesnt the water pump is knackered.

Depending on what service it was with I could do it for about half that.
