Fabia vRS electric fans

Featured Replies

any one out there know the answer to this question=

On a Fabia VRS 2004 :

does your two electric fans have one or two speeds?

I.E Do they both work when you put your air con on , and then speed up if your car coolant temperature is starting to get too hot?

I am asking because my dont work when i put the aircon on

any one out there know of problems with the fan control units on these cars??

I don't know for certain, but I'd say if your air con's cold and your car's not overheating, then you don't have a problem. Go on a long fast trip with the A/C on 'blue' and then see if they're still not turning!

Yes, I think they have 2 speeds, they should come on at a slower speed with the air con on when you are stopped and faster if the car overheats, although mine has never overheated, so I haven't had them on yet?

They won't run when you are driving as it will impede the airflow throught the radiator.

Mine both failed and the garage had it in for 2 days and in the end it was the actual fans that were replaced, the tech chap said he hadn't done any on Skoda's before only Golfs?

On my 2003 model it seems to be one fan on normally with the second one only coming on if the aircon is also switched on - don't know if they also have variable speed as well - so if neither of your fans is coming on even with the aircon switched off it suggests a problem with the fan or the control mechanism (do they have a radiator thermostat? I know I've had one of these fail on an older car).

not sure . all i know is they will only both come on when i try and over heat the engine .

ive got it booked in at a air con specialist in two weeks time for diognostics .

ive heard the fan control modules pack up on these cars as well as the fan them selves due to a resistor pack inside each fan wearing out. so will have to wait and see what the specialist comes up with as its pointless buying things that may not need replacing.......once i have found out the cause i let you all know ......

Looked at mine last night and they both come on at low speed with the air con on.

Good idea seeing a specialist as they may be able to just say what it is, thus saving you money in the long run.

If both don't come on, I would say it would be the fans themselves, like mine when they stopped working.

Not sure the cost of new fans, never saw the repair sheet as it was in warranty.

two specialists have had a look at on a computer tester.

carnt find exact cause.

the problem is that the air con fan doesnt work at all.

the larger fan only comes on when the car gets to hot.

therefore it must be either the relay pack for the fans or a aircon fan itself.

any ideas any one out there befoere i start taking parts off the car??

Get them to test the fans if possible, as I said in an earlier post, both of mine failed and it was the actual fans themselves, they changed them and it's worked ever since!!!

they have tested both fans.

said both work on high speed but air con fan doesnt work on low speed resistance.

therefore are saying it is either the fan or the control unit on the lefthand side of the inner wing.

so still no further forward as to exact fault part.

gues i wll buy the control pack first and try that.

any one know which it is most likely to be or is it trial and error??

Can't they turn the aircon on and see if the control unit puts out the volts for the fan with a multi meter? Then you'll know if the control unit is working or not.

Course, it could be far more complicated then that.

KT600 any update on you fans?

John, you could be waiting another 10 months for an update

first posted 28/7/08, then 12/5/09 , so lets say sometime in March next year

latest up date is only the larger cooling fan comes in to cool the engine down from over heating . that is confirmed and tested .

however both fans do not come on when the air con is on .

they do not come on when in stationary traffic .

only the larger fan works ( engine cooling fan) to ccol the engine down.

i dont think they should both come on

believe only air con fan should come on if using aircon??

so i think will have to buy either a fan or a control relay kit ( left side of engine)

unless any one can advise otherwise .

specialists dont know !!!!

either control pack or aircon fan?

which one first to buy??

I have had the engine cooling fan on a couple of times to my knowledge, but both my fans do run with the air con on, the engine cooling fan runs at a slower speed than when cooling the engine.

I think it must be a control problem, seeing how the engine cooling element of the fans will work but not the air con, but in my case, they had to change both fans and it wasn't a control problem, perhaps your fans are not starting because one of them doesn't work (i'e' the 'air con' fan is broken thus stopping the engine cooling fan from starting in air con mode?)

control module on inside of lefthand wing was the fault.

i replaced mine it it works fine now...............

when i get five minutes to do it
