Under 21 insurence help .....

Featured Replies

well as im under 21 no-one wants to know me......as i own a fabia vrs with an "aftermarket" turbo on.

basicly the cars going to get sold unless i can sort insurence cover out as it's been off the road for a wee while now.

i have tryed chriss knot and they dont want anyone under 21 on there books with these kind of mod's

has anyone else any experience or any help so i dont have to sell up ? iv tryed confused and getting rejected by everyone.....even as my parents own the car aswell ;)

Can anyone help a fellow member in a bad situation :(

Can't say I'm suprised to be honest. I had to wait until I was 24 before I could afford to insure a reasonably quick car (my VRS). Did you not try the insurance companies before you put the mods on?

well to be honast i thought of it but at the time my insurence was £450 and i expected it to go up at the very top to around 8-900

iv been told to try adrian flux as they insured a mate at 19 for 1100 on an occty vrs......they shut half an hour ago arrrgggg lol

Might try Brentacre, not sure if they have an age limit or not :)

You'll need to ring anyway, not do it online. No one will quote a non standard car online.

right.....that maby sugest's why everyone is saying no then.....iv just had a big red cross all the time

I'm going to upset you now - I'm 20 and my insurance on the Clio for me this year is just £183.02.

I would suggest - Talking to people not using online Insurance groups. Look in the back off a Max Power Mag - There are loads off insurance companies for "Young People with Mods" In there.

I have to buy max power :o

noooo

Try Liverpool Victoria (LV=). I have several mates who've been quoted "standard car" premiums for tuned machines.

IMHO LV won't like an 21 year old with a car that insurers don't like in modified form, especially when it has a bigger turbo on it that is no doubt going to put the power up a large chunk.

What happened to that business insurance thing you were on about earlier in the year?

I thought it was the interwebby "we're cheaper than anyone else" mob that didn't like any Furbie vRS?

One car a mate of mine got a "standard car" (ok standard Dolomite Sprint, but check the spec) price from them for was a Triumph Toledo, lightened, suspension stiffened, 170bhp gp1 Dolly Sprint engine and a Detroit locker diff.

Quick solution if no-one will insure you. Take the hybrid turbo off ;)

I think he is and I'm first in line

We have changed buisiness insurence as it's around 3.5k cheaper but they dont want me :(

they will insure me on a 320cd coupe bmw but not a fabia, always sort of fancy'd one of these :D.......tryed everywhere today......just waiting for a few bits and bobs then the fabia's getting sold

my insurance is up the 8th of this month, and my cheapest renewal quote so far is £1300 :|:|:| i have no no claims bonus, but a years claim free driving. thats because i was on parents insurance as a named driver. surely on a 1.3 favorit with no modifications, no convictions and no claims it should be cheaper?

anyone help?

surely on a 1.3 favorit with no modifications, no convictions and no claims it should be cheaper?

And also no recorded history of being a good risk. Unfortunately by default they will assume you are a bad risk until you've proven you're not.

To reduce your premium, assuming you're fully comp then you could try increasing your excess...

Rob.

Try another company. The one your parents are with might well give you a year's introductory discount because they'll know you've actually been driving claim free for a year, and that can make quite a difference.

tried direct line, they say 1300 with 10% discount

simply cant afford it, im told chris knott doesnt insure under 21's? havnt tried yet, confused.com gave me 1200 with endsleigh money superrobmarket wanted 3200

i have a friend with a 1.3 fiesta a year older and he has no no claims, no claims made, no convictions etc basically the same as me and he has his for 600 with endsleigh yet they want 1200 off me in a lower risk area.. thats the only difference i can think of between us to be honest :(

Who do your parents use?

Also your car is worth naff all squared so see what happens if you put the excess up to say £500 which is probably the value of the car.

my cheapest quote yesterday was £1292 and a few pence, after calling the company to see if it can be brought down, it went up to 1350 odd and with interest for monthly payments it went up again to 1500 ish. so in effect my insurance is more than ten times what i paid for my car (£150).

rob dogs @:

insurance was up last night and needed a car for work so i didnt have much choice but to take the cheapest quote :/

thanks anyway for the advice from everyone, i tried most of it and the excess thing didnt work because im third party and they wont change it from 100 quid

try Bell/ Elephant/ Admiral- They always come out with good prices for young people with low no claims

Chris, I am not advocating doing this, but insurance quotes like yours expalin exactly why there is a problem with uninsured drivers; the insurance is 2 or 3 times the loss from the fine, and having the car crushed, combined!!

Have you tried spelling correctly first?

Unfortunatly if you're U21 you can expect to be hit hard on insurance expecially on something thats in "hot hatch" market like the vRS and even more so if this is your first policy.

Most companies will not give online quotes for modified cars (I think Loz mentioned that) as generally its faster for standard cars.

Can you get quotes on a standard vRS?

What about similar powered cars or even cars with that same PD 130 engine?

Back when I bought my Felicia to insure my Dads Honda (2.0) in my name would have cost me £1100 and my Felly was £972 (25 with 1 fault claim)

Another thing to watch for is your excess. The quote might be cheap but what will you pay out in the event of a claim? Direct Lines excess for under 25s I believe is £400 or was when I had a policy with them.

This isnt going to be helpful but if you cannot afford to insure the vRS you might have to sell it. But if you did, buy a Felly (save the rest from the vRS sale) build a year or 2 ncb then see who says no to insuring a vRS.
