Turbo seals issues???

Featured Replies

Right guys before I start I have searched turbo seals on this section and have read quite a few threads on it!

Basically I had my timing belt and water pump done yesterday on my VRS. I asked the guy that done it to look at my EGR valve and clean it to stop the car putting out as much black reek when its being gunned.

Anyway I picked it up and the guy said that it was leaking oil,and he showed me it. He said that this was a shine of the turbo seals going!!

Can any1 tell me if this is right/accurate???? Is there any other signs of this if this is the case???

Also is the car safe to drive like this (ie does the turbo not use oil, will it not over use oil if the seals are away???)

the car is a remapped 04 plate with 52k on the clock

cheers guys

where was the oil leaking from?

normal to have oil/soot residue inside the EGR valve, oil on the outside usually means you need a new EGR valve

just next to where the plastic rocker cover clips onto at the turbo, theres 2 small holes underneath there, thats where its been coming from????????

needs a new valve from your fault description

Yeah definately sounds like an egr valve i had mine replaced on my 06 vrs a few weeks ago for the same fault. There will be an amount of oil in the turbo system (intercooler, pipes, intake etc) this is due to the engine breather which is recirculated back into the intake pipe to keep the tree huggers happy !!!

He said that this was a sign of the turbo seals going!!

Well he knows his stuff dont he. Hope he did the cambelt right..lol

To be fair, my mate who i get my tech stuff done with is a motorsport mechanic, and he said the same about mine.

Just turned out to be a replacement ERG.

What i dont get is , when the oil vapour hits the impeller on the turbo, surly it damages it a little? The oil being denser than air, and the turbo having to cut through the vapour?

Or am i going to far with my thoughts again?? Must get a hobby thats free! (insert your own joke here!).
