How to tell if front bushes are worn

Featured Replies

Hi chaps, my 2006 vRS Fabia is due for its 40K service, and I have noticed I seem to have a little more 'clonking' from the front of the car over variations in the road surface.

Is there any way to tell that the bushes are definitely worn, as Im assuming thats what the problem is, but dont really trust my Skoda dealer to diagnose it (I'm lucky if the car comes out without additional scratches and marks).

Also, is this a warranty issue if the car is under 3 years old ?

Oh and if its warranty, I presume I have to get the OEM bushes fitted, rather than the uprated ones ?

Thanks all.

RBW.

i also would like to know the answer to this, steering wobbling at about 70mph and when i go over speed bumps it sounds like creaking like the suspension is falling off

how much would a garage charge to change these and is it important ;)

Irregular tyre wear and wandering steering were the symptoms of mine.

I charge £120 fully fitted for Cupra console bushes. Can also do the PowerFlex front bushes.

And you could double that at a main dealer :(

i get the steering wheel wobbling when i accelerate when doing around the 60-70 mark, is this the bushes as well??

Cheers

Could well be, the standard voided bushes are IMHO crap.

wow that was a quick reply lol, cheers mate :D

I was lucky, my main dealer repaired my front bushes on the last day of the warranty, it's worth asking.

Apply the handbrake, grip a front tyre at the quarter to three position and try to rotate the wheel backwards and forwards.

For the roll bar, put the steering on full lock and look to see if the collars have moved or if the roll bar has moved and is touvhing the sub frame.

They will only replace with standard ones though, which are by nature, crap.

Just had our Fabia Vrs in the garage last week.

40k Service

Cambelt

Waterpump & tensioner

Brake Fluid Change

While in, the garaged phoned me to say one of the bushes was worn. I asked them how much and then asked for a discount seeing as they had the car apart anyway and I was spending a fair amount with them that day.

They reduced the price for fitting the bush to £70.50. Just to confirm thats for one bush only. Sorry I dont know what the standard price is but I would think at least double that. The bushes cost £8.40 but they are labour intensive.

My garage bill for all that was well over £700.

WOW thats alot of money...

NOT looking forward to getting upto that kind of mileage...

Alothough saying that...

I will love every single mile.! :D:D:D

Sure is a lot of money, especially when its just service and cam belt associated costs.

Even worse is my octi vrs is due in a couple of months or so and thats even more than the fabia. Just hope they dont fins anything wrong with that while its in. Approx £100 more than the fabia for the 40k service, cambelt etc etc.

At least they will be both be sorted for a while and no more cam belt worries for a few years.

Octimark, slightly O/T but I assume your cambelt change was due to age rather than mileage ?

Thats correct. Its an 04 so it was due to be changed due to it being 4 years old rather than the mileage.
