Wheels of Elegance

Featured Replies

I've been looking and toying with the idea of swapping my 14" alloys on 1.9Tdi Elegance Estate for larger 15" or 16". I think they would look better. Each time I go into a site which asks for reg. number. It gets the car details ok but says my car was manufactured with 16" wheels. I did buy the car used from main dealer and am sure 14" are original.

Why am I told my car has 16"?

Also does anyone know if changing the wheels will affect the superb ride.

Hi mate, shouldn't make much of a difference to the ride.

the rim size will be on your tyre rim mate

The lower the sidewall profile the 'crashier'(sp) the ride will become, Also pre-price tyres at your chosen sizes. The 16" tyres on the vRS are expensive due to the uncommon size.

So may make more sense to go with 15" or 17".

Will make a difference to the ride, but the ride on 16"s isn't bad at all. I went from 14"s to 16"s myself. It handles better, and ride is marginally less good. 16" vRS wheels come up for sale on here quite regularly.

Thanks for that. I just wondered why, if I want new rims or tyres and I'm asked to enter my Reg No. it says I have 16", when my tyres are 14".

I wouldn't have a clue mate.

Thanks anyway. I just went on Kwick fit and it asked for my Reg No. it tells me I need 205/45W16 tyres. Reckon they'd be a bit sloppy on my 14" wheels lol:rolleyes:

That would be the understatement of the year:rofl:

The elegance came with 14" wheels as standard but could be upgraded to

15".

The avoid sites where you have to enter your reg number.

Kwik Fit, if I enter my reg number there it thinks my wheel size are 14" same for my sisters Micra.

There is a calculator on the tyre bibles page 2 here to help you work out rolling distances etc.

You might be better off sticking with your 14" ones unless you find a set of 15" with good tyres.

I was planning on going to 14s on my Felly but the tyres are slightly more expensive and I dont have the space spare to stash the 13" rims.

I think some wheels going up a size makes the handling better but the ride a bit firmer so it depends on what you want to do with your car.
