Hi, I've just fitted cruise control to my Octy and upon refitting my windscreen wipers I've noticed that the threads on top of the spindle on the drivers side was stripped, that'll teach me for trusting a friend to help me. I'm guessing it happened as he hit it with a hammer to free them up to remove them thus knackering the thread and when he put them back on he stripped them.

My question is does anyone know if the same units are fitted to the Golf IV's, A3's, Leons and so on or are they a part only fitted to Octy's? I need to know as it's the only form of transport I have at the moment and need to get to a breakers quick smart as no doubt dealers etc don't keep the parts in stock.

I would be suprised if dealers didnt keep them in stock. Has been a common problem for quite a few years that they seize up.

As for them being the same as the MK4 Golf im not 100% sure im afraid, but it will be close.

And i'd advise against hitting them with a hammer, best way is to wiggle them up and down, they do come off.

I know, made that mistake years ago with an older car, learnt my lesson then. Problem is as my friend pointed out was they were nicely corroded on. I normally leave the nut on if I HAVE to hit them, doesn't damage the thread.
