Too good to be true?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and hoping to jump on the VRS gravy train. I've been furiously looking for a Fabia VRS over the last couple of weeks and missed out on a couple of good ones. Last night while having a browse on the e-bay I came across this...

2005 SKODA FABIA VRS TDI PD 130 SILVER on eBay, also, Skoda, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 11-Aug-08 20:23:22 BST)

Compared to other cars on the market this seems exceptional value in my opinion due to age and mileage. There's a couple of things that bother me though, the remap was done by a company that comes to your home in their van and the seller couldn't remember the name of the company (I've spoken to the seller over the phone) and I have previously owned a crash repaired car which showed paint flaking at the edges which were very similar to the picture in the ad.

Can you see any other possible problems?

Your help/advice is very much appreciated!

Ad says " borrowed picture from another website as I have no digital camera"

So is the car pictured actually the one for sale?

Have you looked in the FOR SALE section on here?

Don't worry about the peeling paint.

Do a search and its a known issue.

I've got an 06 vRS which peeled on the bumper bend each side, resprayed a couple of months back under warranty.

Not sure if I would purchase a modified car but I guess its a good deal if its all as listed.

I have looked on here and there're a couple of nice cars but I'm on a strict 6k budget and so far this is one of if not the newest car I've found in my budget. Also it has to be within a reasonable distance from me and I live in the middle of nowhere (Aberystwyth), so that's easier said than done.

@jamesr - Why would you not buy a remapped car?

the map could have been done by Angel tuning, they will come to your house ina van, i have an angel tuning map and am happy with it.... not the highest power (that vRS will be more like 165bhp than 180) but reliable, they don't kill turbo's.....

I would be unsure about that ad though, its a new e-bay user, with no feedback, and no photo's of his own? hhmmmmmm, it could be genuine, see if its advertised elswhere with more detailes ect, if you do go for it, take someone with you, and check all the docs carefully, i.e. that the vin numbers aren't messed with and they match the V5 ect ect, don't meet anywhere but AT the sellers house....

If it's been re-mapped the warranty will be void, I'd imagine.

Personally I wouldn't buy a re-mapped car and if they ain't pictures of the actual car (which I find rather odd) then what the hell are they?!

Take a look but be wary - there's a lot of cars out there and 6k will get you a decent motor.

If it's been re-mapped the warranty will be void, I'd imagine.

Some parts of the manufacturer's warranty will be void, namely anything that is directly affected b the remap but that is all.

Well it appears this car is too good to be true! I was about to make the 2 hour drive to go see it and decided to do an HPI check just before I left. Turns out that it has a finance agreement against it! It really ****es me off that people can be such d**ks, luckily I didn't waste my time or money but unfortunately some poor unsuspecting person will.

It's not a problem having a finance agreement as long as you make sure it is settled, the seller is probably relying on the funds from the sale to pay the agreement off.
