Suspension advice needed

Featured Replies

I have recently had the FSD + Pro Kit combo fitted to may VRS but while the handling has improved the ride has become very hard (as per my previous post)

Recently have read that chopping or fitting smaller bumpstops can improve the thrashy ride often attained by fitting lower springs. Is this the case? will this allow more movement on the shock absorber and smooth the ride up? Or I am I barking up the wrong tree here?

Thanks peeps :thumbup:

It shouldn't be hitting the bumpstops in a normal driving situation. Really you could do with getting the car on a 4 post lift. (the kind that lifts the car by the wheels and not the sills) and see how much travel you have before hitting the stops. Obviously if you are getting contact then smaller bump stops, longer springs or stiffer springs are the 3 options.

Or can you not see by putting your head on the tarmac?

Be very carefull if shortening the bumpstops on the front bacause the anti roll bar can make contact with the driveshafts.

Could definately do with taking to a ride / handling place so they can tweak or 'trim' the suspension. As it sits I am considering putting the OEM springs back on... :confused:

Sounds like a good idea going professional. I know I was surprised when fitting my coilovers how much more harsh the ride was so it could be what they are supposed to be like. The problem will be with the springs as the FSD Koni's are supposed to be very good dampers.

Afaik Eibach springs are the wrong poundage for the vrs which could be your problem, The only springs which are correct are H&R springs which have a 20mm drop. How much is yours lowered? 30mm is max with the fsd's any lower and they dont work correctly apparently.

Indeed I do, sorry - I should of mentioned in my org post!

Could anyboday recommend somewhere in the midlands where I could go for professional advice?

Re the poundage point, unsure if this is the issue with the mk II as so many on the forum have recommended the FSD / Eibach setup :o

I think OP has a mk2.:eek::rofl:

How about Demon Tweeks? They have an excellent workshop - and lets face it, they know more than most and sell just about all makes of components so your garanteed less biased advice.

I seriously considering putting the OEM springs back on now..

H&R springs are mentioned in another post along with the suggestion of swapping out the rear ARB.... so confusing!

An ARB doesn't act in bump travel, unless you hit a pothole or similar with one wheel only.
