Radio and Steering Pump hassle

Featured Replies

Can anyone give me a bit of advice...

I had the power steering sensor on my X reg Fabia (55000 miles) changed only for the dash light to appear again less than a year later. I've gathered from this web site that it is the pump that needs changing not the sensor again. The fault code is 00566.

The engine managemnet light also comes on and the EPC and occasionally the oil light, are these all related to the pump / amount of power being messed up by the pump being out of proper action.

Also - the radio has now started flickering between the radio function and tape player - I've never even put a casette into the blasted thing until today (to check what was going on)! Is that a power thing aswell. I saw that someone mentioned the alternater... The battery is fine - its been checked (I don't know what they checked but they did)

I've been messed about by a couple of garages -main dealers and not main - possibly because I'm a girl and not quite sure what I'm doing / asking about. I don't want to be ripped off, please help if you can.

No answers here I'm afraid, but just to say you are not alone.

I have an '02 Fabia - 85,000 miles and I'm having similar issues with the power steering, and exactly the same problem with the radio. Also having the dreaded 'flickering lights' issue (where the headlights flicker) from time to time too. Since these are all related to the power drawn, the logical cause would seem to be the battery / alternator, although my own battery is tip-top.

I've read on various forum posts that the power steering issue can be attributed to a faulty steering angle sensor as you have had replaced (common on earlier models), the pump itself, or simply damaged cables of various kinds (which are a lot cheaper to fix). Identifying which is the faulty component proves difficult however since the symptoms for me are intermittent and never appear when the car is hooked up to a fault finder.

When the dashboard lights up like a christmas tree (engine management light, oil light, oxford street lights), I simply switch off the engine, start her up again and carry on. The warning lights always disappear.

Cheers,

Dave
