Back wheel locking after parking in the rain - problem?

Featured Replies

The back right wheel on my gf's Fabia (55 reg) locks on after parking in the rain. When driving off the wheel will sometimes skid along for 10 or so metres and need some reverse then forwards changed to get it to unlock.

From searching the forum locking wheels seems a fairly common problem, but are they normally this serious? Is there anything to do to reduce it? Apart from damaging the tyre by skidding is it dangerous or bad for the car?

Thanks :)

could be rear axle, or the hub the wheel is attached to.

What Fabia is it?

Sounds like the brake is sticking on due to the water, assuming its got drums on the back i'd say clean them out and readjust them, add a little copperslip/plastilube to the contact areas and see how it goes.

Thanks

It's a standard 4 door classic - basic wheels and brakes etc.

So it's not a problem adding something to the drums? We were concerned it would affect the breaking

as long as you apply it to the contact areas between the backplate and the shoes your fine.
