Car Maintenance Help

Featured Replies

Hi just been reading about some posts on mud behind the mud flaps/wheel arches woundered if anyone could tell me how to get these off to clean behind the covers? do you need to remove the wheel? God i hate doing that!!!

Also i have just borrowed a steam cleaner to do my car seats, is it a bad idea to use it on the paintwork outside ?

Thanks

Craig

The mudflaps and arch liners attach with Torx screws. The flaps won't need the wheels off, but the liners will unless you plan to just bend back the edge and hose them down.

When you say steam cleaner, do you mean pressure washer? I'd use a steam cleaner for the seats and a pressure washer for the paintwork, but not vice versa!

haha thanks i dont own a pressure washer so... i will try steam clean inside tonight, maybe have a look at the wheels, a hose down would be sufficient?

Like I said in the other thread you posted on, the problem's well-known in the Octy but I don't know if it's an issue in the Fabia - I'd do a search before taking your car to bits!

Don't use a steam cleaner; you'll get condensation but no cleaning.

If your car has these plastic underguards fitted, I'd remove them every few years and clean out the mud that gets trapped in there. They are a bit tricky to take off as you might need to destroy the retaining washers - but they are cheap to buy from any VAG car or van centre.
