hi to all me new to site, i dont know much about these skoda's but am considering buying an 03 octavia 1.8 turbo 20v rs, the problem is the blue smoke at tickover+ more blue smoke when rev'd ,the eng itself is sweet as a nut + body and interior immaculate with 84.000. there is a bit of a dryish rubbing sound on start up which goes after a couple of sec's and a whirling dryish sound when shutting down, this simpton happend over nite with no other faults prior and was a sweet fast drive before the smoke, iam sure its the turbo but just want some opions before i commit to buy, ps i know previous owner and it has been looked after and serviced, are these cars normaly reliable.

Hello, welcome to the site. If there's blue smoke coming out the exhaust then it means that the engine is burning oil somewhere along the line which, as I'm sure you know, it shouldn't be. IMHO I'd walk away from that one as there are plenty of these cars for sale and it shouldn't be too hard to find a good one.

Hope this helps.

:iagree: Leave it alone could be a money pit :thumbdwn:

It's a buyer's market at the moment.

Have a look in the cars for sale section on here as they'll be good well cared for examples.

this one has been cared for the problem has only just happened and has not been driven since the smoke and noises started, and drove like a new car prior, the eng itself is sound thats why i need some info because it belongs to a relative and being in the trade i'll end up repairing it any way
