Swirls in paint

Featured Replies

HI

I need some advice, I basically wash and wax my car every over week. However once I am done, I always have round swirls like tiny scratches in the paint work. What do people use to give a good mirror finish shine, I do not mind buying a buffing machine or some other bits. Any advice would be good.

Throw the sponge away for a start :)

What do you use to wash your car with? Is it a sponge? if so bin it, thats one of the things that cause swirl marks.

You really should be using a microfibre wash mitt or lambs wool mitt, plus the two bucket method helps to reduce risk of swirls etc.

What colour is your car?

i actually cleaned my car today with a microfibre cloth so much better than a sponge - gets it cleaner also :D

Thanks for the replies, the sponge will be getting binned. The car is red, I will have to look at the detailing link as well then.

If you are using a Chamios then I would put this in the bin as well as this scratches the paintwork...........:thumbdwn:

:) Thanks people, never new that about sponges. Mine will be binned,

Assuming the 'wash mits' are a rip off at Halfords, correct me if wrong,

where should I get one from??

Some also say to keep a pressure washer of the paint as this can force grit to

damage it.....

clean your car . com is very good for buying stuff ime, and as said invest in 2 buckets, wash mit and drying towelle (something like sonus der wunder). then once youve done this youll get the bug and become obsessed!!! (only joking)

If your after good quality wash mitts then I would look no further than here, great price and great products:

www.sheepskinshop.co.uk - the sheepskin experts

I got a new wash mit from ASDA for £1 works great, the last Halfords one i bought was good but it left loads of fluff all over the car and everywhere like it was moulting

We sell a sheepskin mitt as well, it's about £6 - £8, can't remember off hand. I've used one before, they're not too bad - although mine didn't last long.

Interesting about the chamois though - I've just bought a new one. Perhaps I should invest in a drying towel...

You use these the same way as a chamois I guess?

Get a refund mate and get yourself a Waffle Weave Drying Towel, you won't believe how much better they are and they won't scratch your paintwork like a Chamois will...........

Another big up for the waffle drying towel, mine works wonders and has the car dry in about half the time a chamois would.
