De-lock

Featured Replies

After a beer last night, I decided that I would like to de-lock my drivers side door handle  . Does anyone have any thoughts / suggestions / useful pointers ???

Why would you want to?

Surely you need the lock for when your remote packs up, and so as to be able to open/close your windows with the key.

Cheers

De-locking in itself wouldn't really achieve much, would it?

Surely you're going to remove the handles too, fill in the 'craters' left and end up with a nice smooth door. Probably have to resort to the old "Dukes of Hazard" method of exit/entry, assuming you remember to leave the windows down in advance...

If you want a challenge, try removing the air vents from the dash and painting them silver. Looked great on my fab until I realised the layers of paint were to thick to allow the shutters to close (not to mention the lack of anything to protect the paint and the broken shutter due to excessive force trying to fit the *&^%ers back in!)

Seriously though - check how much a replacement handle/lock will set you back before you do anything - replacing my attempt at brightening up the vents set me back

Security reasons. You can't force the lock if there's no lock there to force! Of course, you need to make sure you keep a remote battery handy, or have the spare key readily available.

I understand that the Octavia has a different lock (or lock barrel) to the Golf and does not need delocking. I was then going to say that if you do delock the car and remote fails, you will have to get into the car via the tailgate - and you will be faced with a deadlocked car. But having just tried the key on the rear door of my Estate, I was surprised to find that it unlocks all the doors and not just the boot. (This only applies to cars with central locking). If you have a car with an anti-theft alarm system, you cannot get into the car via the tailgate other than by using the remote.

This issue received loads of publicity and discussion on the VW Forums around the time of the BBC Watchdog programme but has been a non-event on Skoda forums. I did consider delocking since the parts needed are cheap - the paint costs most - but decided not to bother in the end.

or have the spare key readily available.

What is the point of a spare key if you have de-locked?

Of course a brick will overcome both sides of the arguement.

Cheers

It's like having a spare battery but with a key too! ;)

You'll be visiting Rayvern Hydraulics soon then:D
