When is a 2005 Octy not a 2005 Octy?

Featured Replies

When you are reading a Dealers Accessories Price List, that's when!

I've had my [2nd hand] '05 Octy for a fortnight and wanted Skoda mats for it. So I looked up a Dealers list (online) and saw sections for "Octavia A4 1997 - 2006" and "New Octavia A5 2006 >". Now, I know I have a Mk.2 Octy but I ordered the mats from the first section, because it says up to 2006 and guess what? They don't fit! So they have to go back, at my expense, etc, etc, etc.

I know this is a kind of pointless post, but if anyone else is new to Skodas and has a 'borderline' model, maybe my experience will help you avoid the same error!

I'm assuming that "2006>" refers to MY06, some of which would have been built (and registered) in 2005.

Yes, that's what it looks like. But how is a mere car owner supposed to know these things? It says 05 on the number plate, so obviously it's an 06... Eh?

maybe a simple phone call to the dealer to ask?

im surprised the parts dept didnt ask for your reg number to cross check the model to make sure you are buying the right mats though, poor show there!

If you were looking through a dealers list, and you picked them up, they could have checked the chassis number or your reg.

You know what model year you have now though, don't you:rolleyes:

To me, that would say "Mk1" and "Mk2", rather than specific dates due to crossovers in models.

The Mk1 vRS was made after the Mk2 came out, for example

Yes it was confusing for dealers when i bought bits for my 06 MK1 Octy too.

I got the wrong roofbars when I ordered them for my mk2 '04 octy because the dealer assumed is was a mk1!

Out of interest the MkII is an A5 model, the MkI beingt he A4. The A4 is still in production so this dealer's site could equally mislead soemone with a 2008 registered A4. I would be pointing out their error and asking for the costs of mailing to be reimbursed, their fault! They should be more specific and the site make clear what an A4 and an A5 are!
