Seat belt light & audible warning function...

Featured Replies

Hi guys...and girls,

I've had my Fabia 2 1.4 PD TDI Estate for 6 weeks now. I'm impressed with it...and can say it's the best motor I've had by far, and particularly for build quality and fuel economy. However, I've only just realised the seat belt light and audible warning for driver and passenger don't operate at all. When starting the car the engine management system runs through it's checks as normal and the seat belt light check on the dash lights up. However, if I don't put my belt on before driving off, I don't get any warning light or sounds. Neither does a passenger. the manual states an audible warning and light should warn the driver when they reach a certain speed that the belt is not being worn. The wiring under the seats appears to be connected.

Any of you guys or girls know if this function is in a disabled state upon delivery of the vehicle and it needs 'switching on' perhaps by a dealer? As it happens I don't particularly need or want that function active. But it would be nice to know it works.

Cheers for any replies...

I think you only get a seatbelt warning sound with a '3' Fabia, not a '2'.

My neighbour has also Fabia II with trim level 2. No seat belt light and audible warning for driver and passenger are available...

The interesting thing is, this features are available on my poor trim level 1 Roomster... :)

indeed this is true, the warning only works on level 3-how strange. I have just bought and have a long wait for a level 3 estate and talked about this with the salesman. He said the audible warning is listed as a unique feature of the 3 (and says this in the brochure). I guess its skoda's way of differentiating each model, but seems a bit cheap to me:rolleyes: My wife has a level 2 and it definately does not make a peep!

Indeed the brochure does, one of the additions to level 3 over level 2 is "seat belt warning buzzer" - confirmed, since I have a level 3.

Wow...how strange! But thanks so much all of you for pointing that out to me. I should have looked harder at the manual or sales brochure. But, as I said...I'm well pleased with the motor. It's superb...errr...no, not a Skoda Superb!

I think it is a bit like the lack of coolant temp gauge a bit of penny pinching.

It's all relative, with my level 3, I think the lack of standard fit radio remote (inc. Bluetooth ), power rear windows and under seat storage boxes is penny pinching.

These are three items I would expect as standard fit on the flagship model.

thank,s bassa a bit of a shock to realize how much is missing off this so called top of the range model, where are the sill covers middle rear seat headrests I had top of range primera it had sat nav . One more thought why does sat nav cost £2000 in fabia ,when Morrisons have them on offer for £69 which you can use in any car, should bung one on the front seat on flagship model if they can be obtained for this price, should,nt whinge though for you do get side strips on a 3 ,cost £20 from parts dept .any one like to price up all missing things on the 3 to see how much a true flagship model would cost?

Don't forget the BIG plus with the 3 grade - you get floor mats standard - WOW!

Seriously though, I think the radio remote and power rear windows should be standard since most owners would actually want them. The standard fit side protectors and rear parking sensors should be optional. Some would say the black protectors spoil the car's lines and if you cannot reverse a short super mini without sensors, should you be driving anyway? These items, in my opinion, should be down to owner choice and not standard - and why oh why do some countries get radio remote including integrated Bluetooth hands free telephone but in the UK we get offered radio control only - optional at that.

Who makes these rediculous decisions?

Your local importer "SUK"... The name says it all. No?!

I wonder how many owners have accepted an 'in stock' car minus the radio remote, power rear windows etc. purely because they did not want to wait for these factory fitted options included? Lets face it, the standard fit level 3's floor mats, side protection mouldings and rear parking sensors can be quite easily dealer fitted if required. Whereas the radio remote and power rear windows, whilst not impossible, are not as straightforward. It would make more sense to have these items standard fit especially on the level 3 flagship with the mats, side protectors & rear sensors a dealer fit option.

As to the start of this thread, the level 2, or any come to that, not having audible seat belt warning is unbelievable and beyond belief.

Moral to this, if you want floor mats and audible seat belt warning standard get a level 3 - how logical is that?

this is turning into a interesting thread, having a 3 not aware of shortcomings on,1& 2 not to fit seat belt warning on all models is totally reckless .there should be legalisation on this even the most diligent of us must forget sometimes I do, is this normal or am I becoming senile and should not require a buzzer to possibly save my life?

And these are available on Roomster 1 :P

my sport has the annoying ding thing. i thought the sport was based on a level 2?

I guess Sport is between level 2 and 3...

Being a law abiding citizen, I always clunk click before each trip. Intrigued and wishing to check my level 3's audible seat belt warning, I deliberately did not engage my buckle. Low and behold a chime type noise made its presence at approx. 10mph and I can confirm it is annoying, in fact, very annoying.

IIRC it stops beeping after 1 min...

Yeah in the states there's an issue with VW's recent product offering. All the seatbelt chimes seem to be programed to chime incessantly whenever in the switched on(Acc.) position regardless of speed, Heck even when in park & they don't quit(no time limit)!

Good thing for VAG-com just select EU settings & problem solved...

Wonder if some of you wish to, you could enable it on your level 1 & 2's. Based on what Irfant so nicely pointed out(his level 1 Roomster has this enabled) it sounds awfully likely.

P.S. Have to imagine it starts to chime at 15kph(8mph) as the majority of the VAG worldwide products are set up for the auto-locking function at this speed as well...

I thought I might be able to enable the 'day lights - running lights' what ever you wish to call them but the switch so well highlighted in the owners manual has been removed I assume from the UK market models. A personal thing as I use my sidelights for much of the time anyway more so as the car is anthracite colour.

The pic of the wiring for seat belt light...

TBH I picked a '2' and got mats, armrest and side protectors thrown into the deal. I'd like to see some real differentiation on the '3'. Maybe esp & sat nav as standard before I chose one.

ESP is standard on the Tiptronic. Sat nav would be good or at the very least the option of it on UK cars.

Quite like the new Seat Ibiza's docking idea for a portable sat nav., concealed when not in use, unlike the Toyota's Yaris SR effort. The other bone of contention, which I've mentioned before, is the absense of bluetooth on the optional radio steering wheel's remote with UK cars.

Guess Skoda UK assume UK drivers do not require to know where they are going nor make or receive phone calls while on the move? Irritatingly, both these items appear in the owner's manual !!

ESP is standard on the Tiptronic.

Whereas you could argue that it would be more useful on a higher torque diesel. TBH you'd expect it to be standard fitment on any 'scout' model but the way options are divvy'd out makes no sense.

These days you would expect ESP standard on all models but certainly on the Fabia 1.6 petrol manual and 1.9 diesel. Not sure why they chose to fit it only on the Tiptronic - perhaps they think driver's of automatics have less control than drivers of manuals?

Strange where a seat belt buzzer thread can lead!
