Hidious knocking noise...

Featured Replies

From the engine of my VRS when idling or when the clutch is disengaged. No effect on the drive of the car, and no problem with gear changes. It sounds like the engine is being tapped with a hammer at random time intervals.

Any ideas???

:) Don't know, just a little bump on the thread, hope it's nothing serious.

(you didn't leave any trophies under your bonnet at Stithians?)

Thanks for the bump! And I hope it's nothing serious too - it'll eat in to the deposit for the flat. (I didn't get a trophy at the show, only a rosette!! Boo!!)

I'm going to see my tame mechanic tomorrow about this. Bracing myself for horrible news....

Tame mechanic says it the DMF:(

So now exploring options...

Sorry to hear that mate, I'm guessing the :( means it's not good, what

is a DMF?

Dual mass flywheel, and no it's not good. It's pretty pricey. I've basically got 2 options - fit the standard one again, or go for a single mass flywheel with an uprated clutch. I'm leaning towards option 1 as I'm not planning on doing and more to the engine really.

The exact same thing just happened on my mates Golf GT TDI 130:(

Local VAG dealer says £700 to fix!!!
