Cambelt query.......Moved

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and also don't know too much about cars......

My Fabia vRS is 4.5 years old and has just done 60,000 miles. I've been quoting around asking for an inclusive price for the 60,000 mile service and replacement of the Cam Belt. Most dealership quotes were around the £550 - £600 mark, but Croyde Motors have quoted me £400 for the both.

I'm thinking this is really good, but am I missing anything - lots of people are mentioning water pumps and all sorts - do I need to check if this is included in the price, and do I really need a new pump?

Any help greatly appreciated........

I have edited the above due to it being advertising linked.

For the record, a cambelt change for the fabia vRS in MATERIAL terms is usually:

Cambelt: £60 (ish)

Water pump: £30 (brass impelllered one from GSF/ECP is best!)

Tensioner: circa £40 I think

Then the usual £5-10 for oil filter, and £35ish for 505.01 5w40 PD oil. Could do fuel filter as well (£25 ish) and air filter/pollen filter

The rest is basically labour - looking at an average of around 4 hours charged at whatever rate they use. Expect a non-dealership to charge less per hour. :)

Thanks for that! Whereabouts in Devon are you based?

I'm from Cullompton and phoned all of the authorised franchises in Devon and Somerset and found Croyde Motors to be cheapest. Really cannot believe the differences in price between all of them £150 makes one hell of a difference!
