Dragon Box, advice needed if possible.

Featured Replies

Hey chaps.

I'm looking for a Dragon tuning box, friend of a friend has one, previously fitted to his Fabia VRS. My question is simple really, will it plug straight into my Superb 130 bhp 1.9tdi with the exisitin wiring or would I need to buy a new wiring loom set?

Hopefully some geek/genius knows the answer.

Cheers in advance.

Baker used to have one of these on his TDI 130bhp (AWX), so I would assume yes. Perhaps he could confirm if he needed to do any modifications.

Simple answer is yes it will work and after about a month should produce around 175 BHP and lots and lots of fun :D

Got one on my Supeb and it's fantastic. Produces more smoke on performance setting but 175bhp then you can't go wrong. I've had 62mpg on the eceonomy setting which great too.

Cheers for the replies fellas but I just want to rephrase my question .... being that it was installed on a Fabia VRS, will the connections be the same on my Superb, or will it need a new set of wires to be ordered in order for it to work?

Cheers for the interest and help.

It will fit ...same connections :D

ok cheers fella, just wanted to make sure.

Have I got it right that the 7 setting model is silver and the superior 16 setting model is black?

You'll have a job to tell the difference when you use them.....and leave them on a medium setting

Ha ha, ok cheers for the advice.

Hm.

Pardon my ignorance. But what makes this different from the "resistor in a box" things you buy on eBay?

Which I'm aware are a waste of money - I've had experience first hand.

As far as I'm aware this is a circuit board that calculates optimum settings for your engine, as it gets better over time as it learns your engine's habits and driving style, kinda like a mini-remap.

The resistor things just feed false air-flow data into your ecu and make it drink more air.

Again, as far as I'm aware the resistor things never need power from the battery, whereas the tuning boxes do.

I think anyhow, some geek will correct me if I'm wrong.

That's kind of what I thought, especially from the post earlier saying it took a "couple of weeks"...

But the only computer device that can "learn" is a neural network...

To me it seems like a "cheap" remap - yet seems to yield approximately the same results as an "off the peg remap" (i.e. 175bhp from a 130bhp TDI).

My question I suppose is this... sub £200 for a Dragon or sub £500 for a non-custom remap?

Okay to be more precise it'll take continuous readings from your ecu and sensors, and applies algorithms to those results to ascertain optimal settings for your engine. I'm dubious about 175 bhp, but 170 would be cool enough.

Many people quote figures but I'm interested to know if those figures have been backed up by actual readings taken from a rolling road or not.

That 175 BHP was on a rolling road (also had a panel filter)....witnessed by a few on here :) it also surprised a few of them  not only does the box learn a bit as time goes on so does your ecu on the car and a month normally will be about right to see what it will actually be like......if you put it in and rolling road it straight away I doubt if you would see 150bhp.

Hmm.... interesting.

My jury's certainly still out, although if someone would like to lend me a unit for a week or two I'll keep an open mind...

Slightly belated response here but had one on mine off a Fabia and worked fine, good power change but decided that it wasn't for me in the end........
