There is quite alot on the site with regard to issues with Fabia power steering. A fault code read would give more insight into the cause of your warning light. It is likely to be the sensor or even a battery/charging issue.

An advanced search for Fabia power steering within the Fabia I section will come up with 200 or so results.

More likely to be the steering angle sensor with the symptom of the PAS coming and going. Eventually it will just go and you'll have no PAS at all. Fairly easy job to change it. Around £40 for a new sensor and a bit of labour to fit it, and route the wiring back to the pump. :)

£40?? I wish mate... Recently replaced one... Was charged around £65 from the main dealer and when I went to collect the part they told me there was an additional £30 which was refundable if I returned with my faulty part.

Shame they failed to mention that at the point of purchase. Lucky for me I had some money on me.

Also I've heared mention of plastic ones (on early cars), mines pretty early and the new part was identical to the failed part. Made sure to wrap some electrical tape over the poorly sheathed wires before fitting it though.

Hi Thankyou to everybody who posted advise,My brother plugged in his hand held tester for reading fault codes and it came up with 2 codes they are 17978 control module locked-maybe immobilizer cleared that code run the car all morning school runs etc checked again no code. The other code is 16502 engine coolant temperature-high input low temp-will change thermostat temp sensor £29+vat from skoda Newport. If the power steering does play up again i will change the steering angle sensor i have access to a garage ramp, my brother works there so should make job of fitting it easy Thanks again.

It is usually the sensor that has the wiring attached to it. There were three types, a plastic one with attached wiring (the early one that is prone to failing), its replacement - a metal one with wiring attached and a later one from about 2003 onwards which does not have any wiring attached to it - all the wiring for it is integral with the engine loom.
