I'm considering a xenon upgrade for my '06 Octavia l&k.I'm sure it entails much more than buying a couple of pricey headlight bulbs??

Yes it would be a lot more than simply replacing bulbs.

More over - the fitting of after market HIDs is actually not exactly legal and could result in your vehicle failing an MOT.

Best bet - replace your standard bulbs with something uprated - I went for Nightbreakers in the end.

They offer a much whiter & brighter light.

Retrofit of OE Xenon Headlamps is NOT possible; what with the requirements for self levelling and headlamp wash etc.

Upgrade your regular bulbs with Osram Nightbreakers (as already suggested), Philips Extreme or PIAA Extreme White Plus.

Although nowhere near as good as a proper HID setup.

Oh fully agree :)

But where HID isn't an option there are some nice, white bulbs out there if you're willing to pay the premium price.
