GPU folding unable to download core

Featured Replies

I've tried reading the official stuff for information, but it's far to technical for me to even begin to understand.

Basically, I'm trying to run GPU as well as normal. It's installed fine, I know the graphics card is compatible, it just keeps coming up that it's unable to retrieve the core.

Any ideas?

What OS, graphics drivers and graphics card are you using. From my own experience if the graphics card is powerful, there is no better way to trash your performance than to run the CPU and GPU clients together as the GPUs need a whole core to queue up the data for them.

Vista 32 bit, Nvdia GeForce 8500GT with the CUDA drivers. The performance isn't really and issue for me as I leave the PC on when I'm at work and stop folding whilst at home.

Just to check.. have you updated the folding client recently??

reason i ask is that for me the beta has expired and doesnt work.

Yarr, got the new one yesterday.

Did you get this running? Are you trying the system tray (with molecule graphics) or the command line version of 6.20? Also - it can't run as a service in Vista. It's very definitely worth getting the GPU client installed if you can.

System tray, and as far as I know it's running as a client.

I'll have another go.

So that's the one that installs itself? I had lots of issues with that so I uninstalled it and I'm using the command line interface (CLI) version now, and it's super-stable.

If you follow the various threads in the F@H forums they suggest deleting the core you just downloaded and letting it start again, but that didn't work for me so I ended up going for the CLI client instead.

I'm now running the command line version. The installer installs, but then won't retrieve the core. No such problems with the CLI version!!
