Bee sting ariel

Featured Replies

I was wondering if the bee sting ariels are as good as the original one i have on my Fabia, i just saw one and i quite like it but no point putting it on if the reception won`t be as good.

I got an extendible one from tesco, think it was about £3.99. Seem to get same sort of reception as with the big long OE thing with my Pioneer stereo - get traffic broadcasts from Sheffield, York and Hull local radio while driving around Leeds anyway. I put a little copper grease on the threads to make sure it didn't seize in the aerial base making it impossible to remove.

I think people use Honda s2000 areas too, and the vw sharan...so if their genuine i dont think they would make them tonot work, its the silver ones you can buy from halfords that dont work as good. :)

I`ve just bought one off Ebay for £6 and it retails at £10.99, so not bad. I`ll see what`s it like when i get it in the next couple of days.

I just got my current aerial and modified it and it works well, reception hasn't been too badly effected:

I got the ariel yesterday and fitted it, i went out last night and it seemed fine.

get yourself a Honda s2000 or corola aerial from ebay or a dealer ive got a corola one off ebay.

i've read many posts on here before about new aerials, but i'm bugger*d if i can get my old one off..had 2 fabias, and now got an octy....HELP !!!:o

It needs a really good tug. I grabbed it with pliers and gave a sharp tug. It has a security thing at the end to make it hard to steal :D

To get the aerial off unscew it and then push it towards the base then pull out. Be carefull though the roof does flex.

I didn`t have a problem with mine as it just unscrewed.

i had to really pull on mine to get it off, i wouldn't yank it though just incase.

Please don't have a heart attack, but i've managed to get mine off..i tried all your suggestions, to no avail..so i resorted to a crow bar !!!!!

don't panic, i've got one with a V on one end..i inserted that, and VERY gently moved it..piece of doddle :)..my bee sting is now on order

Knowing my luck, if i used a crowbar i would have slipped and scrached and dented the roof.

I had a mate who worked in the radio broadcasting industry. Said that arials had to be specific length, now that length can be in multiples, like 2", 4", 8" etc.... Ones of a random length may not work as well as "tuned" one. The length is determined buy the frequency range you want to listen to apprantly. So ones on UK cars should be different to ones on USA and Japan cars for example. Sounds odd and not sure how true it is but thought it worth a mention :)

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards

I never told my wife that i changed the ariel to see if she noticed anything. Today she said that the radio hasn`t been very good this week as it was crakeling and fadieng in and out.

Could this be because i bought a cheap one, i paid a few quid for it on Ebay.

I've got one of these

Its one of the new peugeot/citroen type's, but I had to use a signal booster to get a good signal. Looks the nuts tho

It does look good, but i don`t like the idea of having to have an reception booster.

Knowing my luck, if i used a crowbar i would have slipped and scrached and dented the roof.

I took a big roll of lambswool cloth, just in case, but didn't need it..the crowbar fitted between rubber and rubber

I`ve taken off the bee sting ariel as the reception was pants, i`m wondering id this due to that it was a cheap one.

Which ariel would you recommend as i still want one.
