Is it me, or has T Spark been taken off the list accidentally, or for a reason?

We've been speaking and he's got a few issues with the car so looking to buy a kit more closer to xmas now.:)

Joined the forum for the group buy if, that's OK? Normally read the TDI club forum! Glad I found this forum!

I would like to buy the progressive kit for a pre turbo and post IC injection.

The car is a Volvo 850 2.5L TDI chipped with about 180hp. Old KKK014 waste gate gas flowed turbo running about 18psi boost, Race520 injectors, 11mm pump.

Two questions, which nozzles would you recommend?

Which progressive controller?

I have the factory pressure sensor which is probably 2.5BAR sensor (Absolute so engine off would show 1000mb and I have another for my pressure gauge which gives 0.4VDC to 4.5VDC indicating 0 to 30PSI (Boost pressure not absolute).

What is the minimum start signal voltage for each of the controller configurations please, and which would you recommend?

Regards

Chapelhill!

What size jets are people going for?

Alex

sorry if I'm being fick, but will this work on a petrol turbo? - is it like nos where the alcohol/water mix lowers the charge temperature? (in which case it should work on a petrol shouldn't it?)

Hey Jonny, we sell 70% of our kits to petrol engines, only just now starting to catch on with diesel, i run it on my skyline with very good results.

My kit has now been installed, I took Bruce (Devilsown) up on his offer of fitment for a small charge as I knew I had no idea how to install it and I know my VW specialist would moan at me if I took it to him. So his brother Alfie a trained seat mechanic was to do the fitting at his house. Time required was 2/3 hours and I was to be there at an arranged 11am. A quick drive from surrey M3 & A303 and I was there with the other half in toe as I promised her some shopping in Salisbury.

Meet Alfie, he explained what he was going to do etc, then dropped us off in town and would pick us up at 3pm. Really nice town Salisbury, had a nice lunch in the Red lion hotel and the other half did a bit of shopping while I dragged my feet following along.

Alfie picked us up at 3, with not the best of the news, the location for fitting the pump had caused him a nightmare, this was the first PD TDI so it was all step by step. So we settled down in front of his TV with a cuppa and let him get on. Unfortunately the install was just taking much longer than both of us imagined, which meant I had much apologising to do to her in toe. He finished at 19.30, so a good few more hours than we had though, but the installation was excellent, all wires had been tidied away, a real professional job. Unfortunately when tapping into my washer bottle the connector would not seal, the first time we put water in, it just leaked all out, so Alfie removed the connector and re-installed with a new sealant which I had to leave for 24 hours to dry in the hope it would not leak next time.

A lead footed journey home and back in time to go to meet friends for a night out on the tiles.

Decided to leave the car all Sunday as I wanted the sealant to really set. So Monday came, put some water in the washer bottle and it leaked out once again... Not happy but then I can’t really blame anyone. They do advise to use their bottle's for ease of fitment etc. I took the car to my VW specialist who is going to order me a new washer bottle and then re-install the connector to the tank, using washers and a very strong glue.

Hopefully the bottle will be fitted end of this week / early next week so I can test out this new bit of kit.

I have 2 spare washer bottles if anyone wants one for this install

  • 2 weeks later...

Has anyone else on this Group buy had this kit fitted yet ?

I got my new washer bottle and connection installed and no leaks so all good on that front. So I set about testing.

I have the boost switch which is plumbed directly into the Allard EGR delete pipe as is the Water spray injector. Now I request just under 30 PSI, but by the time this has reached the Intake I reckon a few PSI may have been lost. To set the boost switch you turn a cog and set it to the desired PSI, this is easier than it sounds.

First attempt I tried to set it to 24/25 PSI, this resulted in about 80% decrease in smoke output but performance suffered, I lost 0.5 second from 60-100 which is a HUGE amount about 15 BHP from previous calculations.

Second time out I adjusted it to what looks like 27/28 PSI and no difference at all, same smoke output and same performance - although saying that before the kit was installed my average of 3 runs the on this specific piece of road form 60-100 was 7.31 and now it is 7.52 so somehow through fitting this kit even when turned off it now only covers the 60-100 in 7.52. Note: Same road, Same timing system, same outside temp, same fuel load, I’ve used this road for the last 2 years, the figures are accurate. This might have something to do with taking a bit more juice from the battery or having an injector and a boost connector going into my AGR delete pipe, who knows......

So I tried backing the boost switch back a little, which resulted in 80% less smoke but performance decrease..

Is it that the boost switch is to agricultural in its operation, should I have gone for the Progressive controller ?

Any ideas / feedback more than welcome.

P.S This is only been tested on Water as I can’t find any meth in Kent/Surrey at the moment.

Hi bud, sounds like you might have a too bigger jet, and it's bogging the car down, i'd either go for a 1 size smaller jet or slightly increase the boost.

Although before you do either of those i'd recommend trying a little methanol, go for about 30%.

Boost is running at the Turbo's safe maximum limit, so no room for really upping it. Which jet did you provide with the kit, I really do not have any idea what your brother installed ?

I wanted to try and get it working with just water, wanted to try and reduce smoke but keep power as this was my aim from the start, then maybe try adding a little methanol for a bit more power later on.

He fitted a 3gph jet which is fairly small, you could go down to a 2gph, the thing with the water injection is it will cool the exhaust gass temps loads which will make it a lot safer to run more boost.
