Mk1 Octy vRS Anyone using KYB shocks?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Just wondered who (if anyone) uses Kayaba shocks on their mk1 octy vRS? I do a lot of London driving, about 60% of my driving involves speed bumps and potholes. Looking for a better ride than my OEM setup, would still like to go round corners though! I'd love a set of Koni FSDs, but budget won't really stretch to them and as I don't really push the car I don't feel it's necessary, just want better damping. I'd be very grateful if you could share any experiences you may have with KYB. I tried searching but could only find KW/coilovers/Koni related threads - sincerely hope I haven't killed another kitten...

Thanks in advance :)

They don't even list Skoda in their parts catalogue and the americans know nothing about getting a car to go around a corner

I'd be surprised if your car is over-critically damped. Unless that happens and the dampers are controlling how far the springs can move, different dampers won't change, and can't improve, the primary ride quality.

Ah. Could've sworn I saw a sig around here somewhere mentioning KYBs as a mod (Liverpool Lad IIRC?) but I must be mistaken. Whoops, first thread and it's a non-starter!

And Ken, thanks for the knowledge. Just want to deal with humps and bumps better, my shocks are on 37k though (a lot of that in London) so perhaps even just OEM replacement would improve things. Was also thinking to go for 16s with bigger tyres as well, hopefully there'll be a furby/octy estate owner willing to swap (though mine are well kerbed unfortunately...)

The adaptive qualities of Koni FSDs might help a bit, but the only answer to speed bumps is to drive slower!

My Dad's used motor-factor supplied KYB shocks on most cars he services. They seem comparible to OEM and of decent quality.

No experience of "uprated" ones though, I'm affraid.
