Photography and Legalities

Featured Replies

Currently the Coffee shop at work have asked me if I want to frame any of my photographs to hang on the walls of the shop for decoration and also as a mini-gallery of people's work to sell.

As I said I'd help out and submit some piccys to them, and possibly take some more in the future for them to display/sell, I've found myself in the murky world of Copyright law.

Due to the type of photos I'm likely to be supplying (the shop is part of a group of three venues where live bands, performances and events take place - and they'd like to have pictures from various events up) I'm wondering about Model Release forms. I'm going to assume that if I'm selling photos via the shop then I will need a release for each (recognisable?) human face in them?

Is there anywhere on the web where I could get a Model Release form to download and adapt? Or is there any standard wording that needs to be on it?

I also need to look into the legalities of photographing performers too. If I have permission from the venue and they have informed the performers of photography would that cover me to be selling the images I take? (unless it's mentioned in the performers contract?) Or would I need to get something like a Model Release form signed by the performers/manager? And would the images then be legally mine to sell as photographer, or the venues as those who have the permission from the performers to have the 'professional' (not that I am in any way professional) photography?

Dunno if anyone on here would know anything about this, but thought I'd throw it out there
