New Superb SE model

Featured Replies

Decided to go for this over the Elegance model on leasing cost and also company car burden.

Reading the forum most of the comments & posts are about the Elegance spec.

Anybody got any view on the SE spec?? It seems good value to me.

Frankly, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the new Superb trim levels. All of them represent great value for money, and will give you a fantastic car.

Cost and value aside, there is only one thing that puts me off the SE currently and that's the lack of Bi-Xenons with AFS. They are absolutely fantastic, and currently can't be ordered with the SE. This will change, but nobody seems to know when.

If you can wait for them to become available, then I reckon you should.

SE looks like a great balance between cost and spec to me. If I was spending my own money I'd go for an SE for sure. :)

i have just driven an SE spec car. I drove an elegance last week. SE is nice. spec is good. stereo is as good as elegance but no sat nav (still get SD card slot and touch screen. Seats really nice although you can only get them in black. ride is nicer on the SE due to smaller wheels. I prefer elegance seats as they have elec adjustment but i have a bad back and spent over an hour on the test drive in the SE and my back didnt hurt at all. seats are exactly same shape - all you loose is electric lumbar and rake adjustment on base. you do get a manual lumbar though. also lack of xenons is not ideal. i think i might go for elegance but with factory specail order of smaller wheels. PM me if you want to ask specific questions as i have driven both and can give you my view.

I'm ordering one next week, but I ain't taking delivery for another 30 mths, 10k seems fair to me.

As a company car driver I have requested an Elegance but if the fleet manager says no (ie too expensive to lease) then I will go to an SE plus sat nav.

I agree the SE is a pretty good spec and after seeing one in the flesh would be very happy with it.

One point to note the outer sections of the seat are not leather...I suppose by implication that makes them plastic!...look and feel good though.

im torn btween this and something else.

dont want sat nav, so se trim fulfills my needs.

I went to look at the SE yesterday and compared it to the Mondeo Ghia and the Mazda 6. No real competition. The New Superb was excellent.

Yes - the Elegance spec has more of course but if I go for the SE I will save about £500 per year after tax in company car tax alone.

SE looks the best compromise to me

i perfer the se seats as the half alcantara is lush!

as has been said its a shame you cant get the xenon lights confirmed on it but apart from that its very nice

Not sure what the fuss is with xenons anyway. Had them on my Fabia, and yes they were very good when they were finally adjusted properly, but they dazzle other road users, and normal projector headlights are very good these days. :)

When it comes to the Xenons that the Fabia has, I would agree with you. You only have Xenon lamps for dipped beam, which is still an improvement on normal headlamps, but the gap is shrinking.

On the Superb, you get Bi-Xenons, which really does make a difference. Both dipped and full beam are Xenon and it really is like daylight and darkness. Combine that with the new AFS features on the Superb, and normal headlights simply can't compare.

Once you've done some night driving with the new Superb, you'd be very reluctant to go back to normal headlights.

Not driven a car with bixenons, so will take your word for it!

All I wanted to get across is that the normal headlights are absolutely fine, I wouldn't let not having xenons put me off an SE. :)

Agreed. The SE is still a great car, with or without Xenons.

What I'm saying is that if you only go for one option on the SE, the Xenon headlights ought to be it.

Sadly, they are still aren't available on the SE, but this should change soon.

Bagpuss.

suggests they are in brochure blurb, though not options list.

see first para on page describing afs..."standard on Elegance, optional on S and SE"

This is the original dealer announcement for the options, which shows that Xenons on the S and SE will be coming, just not yet.

its the electric seat adjustment and cream interior that i really want. the SE seats were great - far far better than most other manufacturers' seats. But the lumbare was a simple mechanical cam adjustment and you could not move the lumbar up and down to position it correctly. also the angle of the base could not be adjusted. with the elgance seats you get the full 4 way electric lumbar (had one of these for the last 6 yrs in my audi and dont really want to loose this feature) and electric tilt on the seat base.

Also i have had black with silver inlays in my last two cars and my second car is a passat with half alcantara seats and black interior so i want a change and want cream !!

Xenons - i agree that they shoudl not be the only deciding factor although the bi-xenons are bloody good on my audi A6 and i would miss them !

At the moment I have a Mondeo Titanium X with the leather / alcantara seats and the only extra I requested was Xenon headlights (normal main beam).

I have test driven a Mazda 6 and Golf GT Sport both will full leather as well as the Superb Elegance and the seats were much better in the Skoda than the others. I sat in an SE spec Supberb and to be honest the "imitation" leather in the Superb is as good as, if not better than, the Mazda and VW.

Would be great to spec a new Superb CR170 SE with Xenons but I think my car will have to be ordered from the lease company before the option is available. Elegance is outside the max lease price we are allowed :(

We just got a Superb SE last Friday and I'm very impressed with the level of trim in the car, although stupidly I ordered it with leather which is silly since we ended up paying £1,300 for leather when it already had half leather anyway, pretty silly of me.

But anyway, I think the spec is great and the 140PD engine is a little unrefined compared to the CR170 but still not a bad engine at all. Mocca Brown looks really nice and I think I'll be ordering a Mocca Brown Elegance with Ivory to replace our current demo DSG.
