vRS Water Pump, which Version better?

Featured Replies

I am about to do a cambelt and water pump on a vRS engine and wondered which water pump is better.

  1. Genuine VAG - latest spec
  2. Euro Car Parts make one with a metal impellor

Was thinking maybe the metal impellor may be better?

Any opinions?

Initially I'd go for the VAG exchange one and then open the box before you pay for it - just to make sure that it has a metal impellor - I think that you will find that that is also the cheaper option. If the exchange pump does not have a metal impellor then you can always reject it - for the well documented reasons. Back last year I bought an exchange pump from VAG - VW actually, for a Polo petrol engine (BBY), and despite what most people thought, I was given a pump with a metal impellor.

i got the metal one from euro car parts, :-)

No problems with the standard OEM plastic one on my car. Removed at 50k miles and looked like new, so a new VW one went back in.

Yup, that was what the original (very hard) plastic one was like when it was handed back to me after it was changed at 50,000 - 5 years (better late than never) "belt time" - still felt happy about just getting it changed though when it only cost £25.

I requested the Metal impellor from Skoda, cost £60 IIRC and they give you £25 back for your old one
