V-maxx coilovers the definitive thread

Featured Replies

Hello there.

I have seen some V-maxx coilovers advertised at 1/2 the RRP, brand new.

I have been umming and arring over these as I dont want to get them have them fitted then find out the quality is terrible (shocks start leaking etc) or the ride is really hard/ crashy.

I am looking for genuine opinions from people who have had them fitted or have fitted them - not opinions from armchair pundits who have never seen or used them and shoot them down simply because they are cheap.

What is the ride like compared to standard? Does it crash about? Is it harder or well damped?

How is the handling with them fitted?

I do not do trackdays but like a country road blast now and again - I generally travel backroads as well as the A470 to cardiff every weekend.

I also have a young daughter and SWMBO and dont want them to be uncomfy or moan.

Skoda Fabia vRS somewhere to have a read. I dont have them myself, but am in the same boat.

At the same ride height as my friends with KW V1's you cannot tell the difference, thats my opinion from my experiences.

Only thing is the adjusters are galvanised so could seize up - but i just copper slipped them anyways

Millions and millions over on Edition 38 run these and they have had great reviews

It handles like its on rails and of course its going to be a harsher ride then OEM - we cant have everything.

And its a Fabia not a Ferrari so i dont see the need for some fancy £2,000 suspension

This is my 2p's worth and its from 'my' experiences

A little more on the ride - when you say "harsher" do you mean simply more rigid over bumps in the road, or that it seems to pick out bumps in the road that the OEM suspension rode over well?

Its been sooo long since i've had OE suspension i cant really comment.

But its lowering the car and stiffening up the suspension. If you enjoy your comfy ride you really shouldn't be looking at coilovers

BUT the handling will be vastly improved

I have not tried them on a Fabia but have lots of experience fitting them and testing them.

Quality: poor

Ride: VERY bouncy, and harsh

durability: non existant, they seize up in no time

Same stuff as Gmax. Pi, Jamex, and the rest of the re-branded ebay coilovers. I wouldnt sell them in my shop and we also refuse to adjust them when people ask, have had so many snapped height adjustement rings.

as jason said i used to run a standard set up when i changed to the KW V1's i couldn't really tell much diference......there not exactly the smoothest cars on the road but i drove on mostly back narrow country roads and there wasn't a great deal of diference

just when i drove a quality car and i got back into the fabia.....aaahhh it drove my nuts in for a couple of days
